“IS BIOCHEMISTRY [BCH] A COURSE OR A CURSE?” FIND OUT IN THIS REVELATION
This piece was first published on this platform in 2016; we believe it will still it will still make great impacts in the lives of students…
MY NAME IS CHUKWUNONSO EMMANUEL ASIEGBU; I GO BY THE PSEUDONYMS “NDJP; NONINHO; THE INSPIRATIONAL PARROT; THE MOTIVATIONAL PILOT-1”.
I’M CURRENTLY A GRADUATE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF APPLIED BIOCHEMISTRY IN NNAMDI AZIKIWE UNIVERSITY [UNIZIK] AWKA, ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA.
I WROTE THIS PIECE WHEN I WAS ON MY I.T., THAT IS AS A 300 LEVEL STUDENT OF THE DEPARTMENT
I AM OUTSTANDINGLY, PRECIOUSLY, AND PRECOCIOUSLY ENDOWED WITH THE GIFT OF WRITING [IT’S ONE OF THE VARIOUS MEANS THROUGH WHICH I MAKE POSITIVE DIFFERENCE IN THE SOCIETY].
I DIDN’T MAKE IT TO APPLIED BIOCHEMISTRY BY MISTAKE; I CHOSE TO BE THERE, I REMAIN THERE AND GRADUATE FROM BCH.
I AM SO MUCH CONCERNED WITH THE WORD “APPLIED” ATTACHED TO “BIOCHEMISTRY: THE APPLIED [FOR ME] IS NOT ONLY IN THE FIELD OF BIOCHEMISTRY ALONE.
I INVOLVE IT IN OTHER FACETS OF LIFE SUCH AS WRITING, FOOTBALL, ICT, INTER ALIA. IF THERE IS NO OTHER THING I HAVE LEARNED FROM BEEN ONE OF THE ERUDITE METABOLITES, I HAD LEARNED TO BE DISCIPLINED, HARDWORKING, AMONG OTHERS.
BELOW IS WHAT I REALIZED ABOUT BIOCHEMISTRY DURING THE 2ND SEMESTER OF MY 200 LEVEL ON UNIZIK CAMPUS:
During the second semester of my second year in the university, I came to realize that Biochemistry is a course that a student must give his/her time, and not a course that gives a student time. Diligent, confident, competent, magnificent, intelligent, excellent and smart students see Biochemistry as a good COURSE, while defeatists see it as a CURSE.
Anyway, that’s my opinion, others have theirs about Biochemistry; but the problem is that most of them won’t come out in the public to air their views. It wasn’t an easy course to study though, but if you are determined, you are going to make it through. Let me not say much for now.
It’s better to develop your abilities while studying any course in the universities. Do not just restrict yourself just to the course you are studying. Meet people, attend events, make connections; your cert in the particular course you studied won’t be enough to make you the person you desire to be.
