Happiness is everyone’s friend and desire. Even though things of sorrow and sadness do happen to us sometimes, yet we all strive to enjoy a happy life.

Being happy is not only healthy to one’s psyche (spirit, soul, and mind), but also to one’s body because the health of one’s psyche to some extent reflects in one’s physique.

Without boring you with much words, let me go straight to listing out these ten (10) things you need to give up doing if you really want to be happy.

10 THINGS TO GIVE UP IF YOU WANT TO BE HAPPY:

 1) Living in the Past

Let go of your past and face the present as you prepare for a better future. Living in the sorrowful events of your past will stain the corridors of your present with sadness. Please let go, yes, I say you should let go of the past so that you can enjoy the present happiness.

2) Blaming Others

Blaming others is not really the problem; the major problem is when you blame others unnecessarily and blaming others unduly. To enjoy a happy life, make sure you don’t always blame others for what you would have taken responsibility of. When something has gone wrong, please do not keep blaming others for the incident; find/proffer solution and make amend.

3) Ingratitude

Make sure you always show gratitude for the helps and supports you receive from others, notwithstanding how little. Ingratitude is one of the things you should give up so as to enjoy a happy life. Appreciate whatever you get or receive from others.

4) Negative Self Talk

Please and please, avoid talking negative of yourself. Always boost your mind by telling yourself good things about who you are. Negative self talk will make a bad or negative impression of yourself in your mind and this will contribute to your not being happy. So, give up negative self talk now to be happy.

5) Perfectionism

Remember that we are humans and have imperfection running in our stream. You cannot be ideal, you can only be real. Trying to live a perfect life will result to your not being happy and lots of other things. Nobody is perfect and nobody can be perfect. We are bound to make mistakes in life; what matters is what we do with our mistakes and the lessons you grab from the mistakes.

6) Resisting Change

At certain times in our lives, we ought to change our lifestyles and so on so as to live a better and happier life. When you refuse to change from doing something which deprives you of your happiness, how then could you be happy? So, consider taking change in what and when you should so as to be happy in life. Do not resist change when there is need for that.

7) Trying to Impress Others

I am not saying that you should not try to be outstanding in whatever good you are doing; but trying to impress others with what you are doing may end up costing you your happiness when you end up not impressing them. When you want to do something (let it be something good, something that can add values to your life and to those of others), please do it well (as you ought to do it) notwithstanding what others may say or how they may feel. Trying to impress others may make you do things the way you don’t even like, and this will deprive you of your happiness.

8) Needing to be Always Right

You should make sure that you are not always the right person; even when you are wrong you still claim to be right, please give up if you are such a person. You have to give up now so as to be happy, okay. When you are wrong, please accept it that you are wrong and apologize. Always insisting that you are right will result to argument, fight, exchange of words, criticism, oppositions, and this will not make you to be happy.

9) Feeling Entitled

To be happy in life, you should give up feeling entitled. In a simpler grammar, feeling entitled means being convinced of one’s righteousness or rather put, justifying one’s action or right to have something. Be humble and see things the way it really should be. Do not think you are better than others or that your own actions are the right ones while those of other people are wrong. Give up living a pretentious life.

10) Envy

Finally, you need to give up envy. Be happy for the success of others. When you are truly happy for someone’s progress, success, and achievements, you too will be happy in life. Do not use because you could not succeed in doing something, then you are now envious of someone else who succeeded in doing it. Give up hatred, enmity, rivalry, and/or ill-feeling. Be truly glad for another person’s greatness and success in life.
