Message To Igbos: “I Would Prefer A ‘Demon’ From Igbo Land As A VP To A Phenom From Another Tribe As A VP – Igbos Where Is Our Spirit Of Unity & Brotherhood?” – Chinonso Emmanuel Asiegbu
Umunne mu Ndi Igbo, we are known for our wisdom, and in moment like this, we are expected to deployed our utmost wisdom in taking decisions, it is preferable to accept a ‘bird’ offered to us at the moment, rather than hoping for the promise of a ‘cow’ to be giving to us in years to come.
I am not discriminating other tribes in Nigeria, but I am writing this short piece of writing to send a message to my dear Igbo brothers and sisters who may be having biased mind on whether to support the appointment of Mr. Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate or not.
Mr. Peter Obi may not be the desired person Igbos may bring out if they were consulted beforehand, but as the case is right now, we have no reason to be dividing ourselves over the choice of the person chosen as PDP Vice President come 2019 Presidential election in Nigeria.
The choice has been made, and we suppose to settle our differences inside house, rather than outside. We should not use because the person chosen is not the person we have in mind and say no to helping our own brother into the seat.
Ndi Igbo, let me ask: “when last was an Igbo person chosen as Vice President of Nigeria before election, talk more of the person winning it?”.
Let us count our teeth with our tongue and take our grudges away. We should not reject our brother because we were not consulted before he was appointed to be the running mate of PDP Presidential flag bearer come 2019.
Mr. Peter Obi is from Igbo Land, and since Former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, (who is not an Igbo man) has deemed him worthy of being his running mate, then what is holding us from endorsing him, and all of us standing with them to emerge victoriously in 2019 Presidential election?
Some Stakeholders from Igbo Land may be against the choice of Mr. Peter Obi as Atiku’s running mate; but I am calling on such people to think wisely. We should stop disgracing our ancestors by paving way for division among us.
Criticizing the choice that has already been made won’t help matter; but to garner ourselves and stand whole as a bunch of broom so as to be able to sweep out of the way whoever or whatever that will hinder our brother Mr. Peter Obi from getting into power.
Let all Igbo Stakeholders come together and invite Mr. Peter Obi to a meeting, and right in the meeting table to him whatever they think that the desired person they have in mind may be able to achieve as a Vice President of Nigeria.
Is this what we would be doing if an Igbo person is giving a Presidential flag bearer? Let us begin now to scoop water that is at ankle level before it rises to the level of drowning the whole body.
I am not sure other tribes are against the choice of Mr. Obi as Atiku’s running mate; then why will it be his own brothers that will be against him?
If we failed to deliver Mr. Obi in Igbo Land, we have failed ourselves and the spirits of our Forefathers won’t be happy with us. Mr. Obi will not disappoint Ndi Igbo, even if he did, he would never have the courage to return back to Igbo Land and seek their supports in anything.
Making it possible for Mr. Peter Obi to become a Vice Presidential will avail him more exposure and experiences in politics at National level. And this will help equip him and pave way for him to becoming a President tomorrow.
If Mr. Peter Obi becomes a Vice President elect of Nigeria come 2019 General election, and together with Atiku Abubakar as the President elect, makes good government and regime in four years; the nation would have reasons to vote for him should in case he comes out tomorrow for the seat of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Ndi Igbo, ‘Umunne mu’, where is our spirit of unity and brotherhood? For my money, I would prefer a demon from Igbo Land as the V.P. of Nigeria to a Phenom from another tribe.
Those who have wisdom will understand that the statement in the title of this article is not meant to propagate tribalism and nepotism nor to discriminate other tribes; but it has a proverbial meaning, sending a message to Ndi Igbo, on the need to support and stand with their brother in 2019 general election in Nigeria.
I am happy with the manner the PDP Presidential Flag Bearer is going about issues concerning this coming General election; especially his recent advice to his supporters to avoid insulting oppositions.
Atiku and Obi may not be the best for Nigeria, but as we all hope for the best people to come up and take over the Nation’s leadership, let us support Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi because, for my money, I believe they are better than, and will do better if elected.
May God help Nigerians to vote in someone who will make us better than we are today, as we all look forward to witnessing a free and fair election all over the country in 2019. May God bless you, I am still a young person, but I am taking part in the Nigerian politics in order to encourage other young people to rise up from slumber and be involved.
Nigerian politics may have been tagged a ‘dirty game’, but having the right people coming in to play the game will reduce the b degree of dirtiness of the game to an appreciable percentage.
