I Have Made Over N84m From Stolen Phones — Suspect Confesses In Ondo
I Have Made Over N84m From Stolen Phones — Suspect Confesses In Ondo: A suspected criminal has made a confessional statement before operatives of the Ondo State chapter of the Southwest security network codenamed ‘Operation Amotekun‘.
Ali Muhammad confessed that he’s the leader of an interstate telephone syndicate.
Muhammad told the security agents that he, alongside his gang members, have realized over N84 million since they launch into robbing important personalities of their expensive phones.
The suspect made the confession when he was paraded alongside twenty other suspected kidnappers arrested by the state security outfit in Akure.
Amongst the arrested kidnap suspects are three; Shaibu Dolo, Saidu Yinusa and Haruna Musa who were reportedly involved in the abduction of 32 burial guests last weekend in the state.
Amotekun said the criminals were arrested in their camp located between Edo and Ondo states.
Confessing his crimes in an interview with journalists at the Amotekun command office, Ali said: “I am Muhammad Ali from Abuja, we have operated successfully in seven states without any hindrance until we were caught in Ondo State by Amotekun. From the operations carried out, over N84 million has been realised by my gang.”
According to him, different security agencies have tried to checkmate them over time but all their efforts in those states were to no avail.
Speaking on their arrest, the state commander of Amotekun, Adetunji Adeleye said the criminals were arrested in a hotel where they lodged in Akure, the state capital.
He said the suspects have confessed to having successfully operated in seven states until they met their waterloo in Ondo State.
Adeleye added: “The way they operate is that they came into the state with a car and two motorcycles and contact two or three locals who understand the terrain to take them round the town for a survey.
“They visit big supermarkets, busy commercial markets, but they don’t steal money, only expensive phones and we have over 20 phones, which they stole around Akure metropolis within two days of their operation before they were arrested.”
Speaking on the case of the kidnappers, Adeleye said three suspects, Dolo, Yinusa and Musa were tracked to their camp located between Edo and Ondo states after they abducted 32 burial guests last weekend.
The Amotekun commander said they have since admitted to their crime but denied involvement in the abduction of the 32 burial guests.
Adeleye said: “The suspects said they are only in charge of food and charging phones in the camp.
“We arrested some members of the kidnapping gang along the Ose/Owo axis where we had a recent kidnap.
“We tracked the phones that were being used by the kidnappers and we met them around the tracking area but they told us that their leader had ran away.”
